SUBJECT: Ground Water Monitoring Results
at the Old City Dump
As the Council is aware, the City of Elk River has three monitoring wells at
the old city dump site off of County Road 12. For the past few years the city
has monitored these wells plus residential wells in the direction of ground
water flow for contamination associated with the old city dump.
Although this years testing shows a very slight decrease in contamination
levels, it's not enough of a decrease to indicate a downward trend. The
. contamination showing up in the wells is below the action limits set by the
Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. However, staff is recommending that
we monitor these wells again next year to establish whether the
contamination is increasing or decreasing.
