The Elk River Fire Department is seeking approval to accept a grant from the Fireman's Fund Insurance
Company in the amount of $25,000. The grant will be used to purchase new hydraulic extrication
equipment from Holmatro.
Bacl~ground/Discussion
In March, 2010, I met with the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company to discuss the company's Bucket
Brigade program. This program is designed to provide financial assistance to fire departments across the
country to purchase life-saving firefighting and rescue equipment. Fire departments are nominated by
company employees who must complete a thorough application for the individual departments.
Fireman's Fund employees Katherine Karja and Jennifer Davis submitted an application on behalf of the
Elk River Fire Department for the purchase of new hydraulic extrication equipment. Last month, the fire
department received news that it will be the recipient of a $25,000 award from the Fireman's Fund
Insurance Company.
This grant will be used to purchase new hydraulic extrication equipment for the fire department's rescue
truck.
This is the second grant award from the Fireman's Fund Insurance. In October, 2007, the fire
department received a grant ul the amount of $7,700 to purchase wildland personal protective equipment.
Financial Impact
There is no financial obligation for this grant from the City. The Fireman's Fund Insurance Company will
coordinate with the vendor directly to arrange for payment.
