CLOUD, Minn. -- Motorists will encounter shoulder, sidewalk and lane closures on Highway 10 in Elk River beginning Monday, June14, as crews make pedestrian accessibility improvements at the intersections of Proctor Avenue and Main Street. Motorists should be prepared for sudden stops, watch for workers and equipment in the construction zone, including in the medians. Parking restrictions and sidewalk and side street closures are possible. The pedestrian controls at the traffic signal systems also will be upgraded for individuals with hearing or sight impairments by providing safety directions in alternative formats using verbal messages, audible tones and vibrating button surfaces. Landwehr Construction, Inc., of St. Cloud, is the prime contractor for the $70,000 accessibility improvement project. All work is anticipated to be domplete by July 30. During roadwork, Mn/DOT urges drivers to: • Check wwvv.511 mn.org or call 511 for up-to-date information about traffic and road conditions. • Stay alert; expect the unexpected. • Remember text messaging while driving is illegal. • Don't eat or drink while driving. • Follow posted speed limits; fines double in work zones. • Plan ahead and expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
