PERSONNEL ISSUES
In the recent past, the city council indicated that they would like to add an additional officer
so we can deal with drug enforcement issues. If the council is still intent on doing this, I
would like to start the hiring process now. It takes at least three (3) months to get through
the entire procedure.
I also want the council to be aware that one (1) of our officers is a member of the U.S. Air
Force Reserves and he has been put on notice that he will be called up for active duty
shortly. This call up is supposed to be for at least one (1) year. If this does occur, we would
like to hire an additional officer for his position. If he is called up, we don't pay any of his
wages or benefits while he is on active duty. If he would come back before the one (1) year
period, we would then have to decide what to do with his replacement.
