Hot Toyic(s) of the Month
June is a month that brings a high level of excitement to the Pazks and Recreation
Department in that it is the start to our busiest season of the year. Summer programs kicked
off in a positive manner with the Bike Rodeo and Safety Camp, along with a new special
event held at the Orono Athletic Complex which was the Minnesota Twins Clinic. The
Twins Clinic was sponsored by the Greater Minnesota Credit Union. The summer sports
camp series started out with a Basketball Camp. The SPA, or Summer Playground
Adventure, program began with the Whatchamacalit Camp which included a variety of
activities including games, crafts, and relay races. We are energized with how summer
programs have started and ate looking forwazd to the rest of the summer season with an
extensive list of recreational offerings For our community.

Other De~rtment Activities
The Recreadon Division has implemented aresident/non-resident fee structure for
programs and classes. To date the largest number of questions regazding the new fee
structure has involved defining residency. There has been some confusion that the
requirement to qualify for the resident rate is to reside in the Elk River School District
versus the Ciry of Elk River. Participants that are part of the Elk River School District but
reside outside of the Elk River Ciry limits do not qualify for the resident rate. Staff will be
implementing methods to better educate the public that qualifying for the resident rate
requires residing within the City of Elk River city limits.
A project relating to the Great Northern Trail which is currently in progress is to bring the
shoulders of the trail North of County Road 33 into compliance with required specifications
for appropriate drainage. The company running the project, BDM, reports that the grading
work to improve drainage from running off the trail is now complete. The seeding
contractor they are working with is planning to touch up the seeding in the areas that have
been reworked within the next week and also remove the biorolls used in erosion control.

• Genealogy Group started at the Activity Center. Will be meeting monthly and invite
guest speakers.
• Currently working on new floor covering in the Coffee Shop and Fitness Area. Also
