Retaining Wall on Main Street East of Norfolk Avenue

Provide guidance for staff regarding inclusion of this wall with the-Main Street Paving Project.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
At the public hearing, several residents expressed interest in having this retaining wall replaced as part of
the Main Street Paving Project. Several of the lot corners have been located and most, if not all, of the
wall is within the street right-of--way.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Engineer's estimate to remove and replace the 230 foot retaining wall with a similar cast in place concrete
retaining wall is $ 70,598.00. Engineer's estimate to remove and replace the 230 foot wall with a modular
block wall is $ 25,960.00. The contractor for the Main Street Project has a very aggressive schedule which
would require that the wall be completed by August 2, 2010 so that the work is done prior to the final lift
of asphalt paving.
