STAFF UPDATES Hales Field
We are currently working with the City and ISD 728 to try to conserve water and save the
school money so they can use city water since the city's private well is failing. There has
been communication with local irrigation and landscaped specialists to brainstorm ideas
for conservation. The estimate of their water use at present is 500,000+ gallons of water
per month. It would be our goal to cut their water consumption in half. This would save
around $1000.00 per month after conservation methods are used. The school district
would not qualify for the SMART Irrigation Rebate because we are providing labor and
instruction to reduce water waste. Angela plans to work one on one with the ISD 728
staff to ensure the best results. Items such as: SMART controllers, shade trees,
woodchips/rocks, water reducing sprinkler heads, and hardscape ideas will be proposed
to conserve water. This conservation project will not take place in a matter of a few
weeks, but instead will be a long term commitment to water conservation. Once the steps
are taken and results have shown water savings, ISD 728 will take over in the efforts on
their own in order to maintain the system.
