BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Chris Wilson, a local artist, wants to install a sculptural art bench in downtown Elk River. She is

I proposed this bench for the Arts Alliance parking area because as an active member of this
group, I am aware of the need for an outdoor seating area which is towards the front of the
building but off the sidewalk. 'This would provide a waiting and gathering opportunity for
people as well as a visual focus indicator of the activities within the building.
I applied for the Central Minnesota Arts Board public art planning grant with the help of my
partner Gene Olson who is a metal sculptor and we received funding to plan this bench.
The Plaisted company has agreed to deliver and place at the site, two large boulders well
suited for seating. This grant will cover that cost; and once this is accomplished, we will be
able to plan the fabricated metal components. These plans will be presented to the city and if
approved then another application for grant funding will be made.
