SUBJECT: Interview Committee
For past vacant department head positions, there has typically been a City Council member or two
participating on the interview committee. This is not a requirement but in the past it has worked
well. Regarding the City Clerk position, if a Councilmember or two is interested, they would be
welcome to participate on the interview committee.
The tentative schedule calls for the applications to be received by Monday, June 23, 2003. The ad
has gone into the League of Minnesota Cities - Cities Bulletin, on the League website, in the Star
Nems, a direct mailing to cities over 5,000 population, posted on the city website and noticed on the
city cable tv bulletin board. With a June 23, 2003, deadline, it is hopeful that the applications can be
reviewed and interviews can be scheduled either just before or just after the 4th of july. Following
the interviews, the top candidate or two would come back for a follow up interview, a decision by
the committee xvould be made, a tentative offer of employment would be presented, and a
recommendation for hiring to the City Council would take place around July 21 or July 28, 2003.
This is a rather aggressive time frame and any number of situations could develop that could cause a
minor delay.
