Enrollment for our upcoming programs has been positive since the fall program guide became available to the public. An example would be the registrations for the Fall Youth Flag Football program. The property owner has approached the Ciry to determine if the Ciry has interest in purchasing the property with the intent of adding a park to the system. The council is planning to discuss this item at an upcoming work session in September. The City is in the process of hiring a Parks and Recreation Department Director. 52 applications for the position were received. A group of candidates have been assembled and are currently going through the interview process. The new Director is planning to be on staff sometime this fall. A concern was recently raised concerning the parking lot at Hillside Park. The city received a complaint regarding noise coming from the lot after pazk hours. An issue with the parking lot is its low visibility to the street due to its landscaping and lack of lighting. As a step towazds solving the visibility issue, lighting in the lot has been installed by the Municipal Utilities Department. Staff will continue to monitor issues relating to the pazking lot. A concern has been raised in regards to drainage issues at Rivers Edge Commons Park. During larger rain events the storm water that runs down the alley along the side of the park is not collected into the existing catch basins located at the bottom of the hill. The storm water in these larger rain events overtops the pedestrian ramp near the pavilion and washes through the mulch and pavilion before cascading down the river bank. This continual occurrence has caused some erosion issues down the bank from the pavilion and it also creates the need to fix the washed out mulch and plantings after every heavy rain. If the problem is left uncorrected it may develop into potential costly repairs of the pavilion due to erosion under and around the structure. Staff is currently researching options to correct this draining issue.
