Lifesaving Award
On June 29, 2003 at 3:48 p.m., Officers Peterson and Besser responded to a medical at
21308 Vernon Street on a report of a possible heart attack. Prior to their arrival, the victim,
Stephen Bolstad, of Minnetonka - went into cardiac arrest.
Neighbors Pat and Bill Redman came to the victim's aid and performed CPR until officers
arrived. Officers applied their AED and shocked the victim four times, restoring both his
pulse and his respiration. The victim was transported to the hospital by Elk River
ambulance, he has been released from the hospital, and is expected to make a full recovery.
The quick actions of Pat and Bill Redman were instrumental in sustaining the victim until
officers could arrive on the scene. Their prompt response and application of this life saving
measure were critical in saving the life of another. They are hereby awarded the Elk River
Police Department Life Saving Medal.
Officers Klm Peterson and Todd Besser are also commended for their application of the
AED and other life saving measures that were also critical in saving the life of Mr. Bolstad.
They too are awarded the Elk River Police Department Life Saving Medal.
