SUBJECT: Hiring a Street Department Mechanic
In January we advertised for a mechanic position for the Street/Park
Department. Out of 27 applications sent out, 20 were returned. Of those 20,
16 were requested to take a heavy equipment mechanic's test and we then
interviewed the top eight.
It is my recommendation that the City Council authorize the hiring of Robert
Mahutga as full time employee at a starting pay rate of $15.50 per hour for
the six month orientation period. If his work is satisfactory at that point, I
suggest that his wages then be increased to Step J of Pay Grade 10, or $15.95
per hour with his next opportunity for a step increase on July 1, 1998.
