Members Present: Vice Mayor Dietz and Councilmember Thompson
Members Absent: Mayor Duitsman, Councilmembers Farber and Holmgren

1. Call Meeting To Order
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the special meeting of the Elk River City
Council was called to order at 11:15 o.m. by Vice Mayor Diefz.
It was noted that there was not a quorum of the Council present.
Introductions were made of all those present.
2. Discuss Hiqhway 169 Safety Issues
Chief of Police Tom Zerwas provided some background information on some of
the Highway 169 safety issues. The concerns relate to speeding on Highway t 69,
the need for fencing between Main Street and 193rd, additional lighting of the
highway, a pedestrian overpass of the highway, and signal warning flashers.
An open discussion took place regarding the residential growth in Elk River on the
east side of Highway 169, traffic volume on Highway 169, and the gravel industry
in Elk River.
Terry Maurer reviewed the status of the ISTEA grant applications for fencing,
lighting, and a pedestrian overpass bridge.
Congressman Oberstar expressed his concern over the safety issues and pledged
his support to help see that appropriate consideration of our funding requests
take place so that improvements can be installed in the near future along and
over the Highway 169 corridor.
3. Adjournment
There being no further business, Vice Mayor Dietz adjourned the meeting.
The special meeting of the Elk River City Council was adjourned at approxiately
12:1,5 p.m.
