Case No. CU 03-15
Conditional Use Permit for Outdoor Storage in Conjunction
with a Wholesale Distribution Facility
The Council may recall that this item was tabled at the July 21, 2003 meeting to the July 28,
2003 City Council meeting, in anticipation of Lead Inspector Zajac and Fire Chief West
being in attendance to discuss the Building and Fire Code issues outlined in Lead Inspector
Zajac's memo of June 23, 2003 (attached).
Lead Inspector Zajac and Fire Chief West are unable to be in attendance on July 28th,
therefore, staff is requesting that the Council table the conditional use permit request until
August 11, 2003.
Mr. Talbot has been informed of the new date as well as the extension of the 60-day review
period.

SUBJECT: Talbot Lumber Building
On June ncd, 2003 fire chief Bmce \v' est, fire inspector Cliff Anderson, and senior building
inspector Terry Zajac met to discuss the building that Talbot Lumber would like LO move
into, In lieu of no fire department access to the north, south, and west sides of the building
the fire department will be requiring the following:
1, The exterior walls need to be 1-hoUI rated,
The roof and the walls on the existing loading dock must be removed and remain
open.
3, The loading dock must be extended to the southwest end of the building,
4, A I-hour fire barrier wall will be required to compartmentize a min.imum of 30% of
the S-1 portion of the building,

The following building code issues will also be required:
1, Three-hour fire barrier walls will be required between the different occupancy's.
2. Proper exiting will be required from each occupancy,
3, Other items such as plumbing, mechanical, gas, etc. will need LO be addressed.
AJl of these items are based on the east side of this building maintaining at least 20 clear feet
of fire lane access. If you have any questions or concerns regarding any of these issues,

Thank you for your Jetter dated July 24, 2003 regarding the 15546 Cleveland Street NW
item as being tabled until August 1 1, 2003_
1 am unable to attend the meeting on August 11,2003, because ofprioT commitments.
I really wanted this project to go forward and move my business back to the eity where it
started and where I Jive. Unfortunately it docs not appear that will happen, so I have
decided to move forward with contingency plans.
We have all expended a lot of time and effort in this item, and I have spent enough
money to cover 2 months rent.
1 will no longer attempt to work with the Cleveland Street location.
