BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce has requested the City Council proclaim November 16, 2010
at Guardian Angels Day. The Chamber has selected Guardian Angels as the recipient of the 2010
Business of the Yeax award.
Members of the Chamber and Guardian Angels will be present at tonight's meeting.

PROCLAMATION
CONGRATULATIONS TO GUARDIAN ANGELS
ELK RIVER AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
2010 BUSINESS OF THE YEAR
WHEREAS, the Business of the Year award is given annually by the Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce
to the Chamber member most deserving of recognition because of their contributions to the community and
its organizations; and
WHEREAS, Guardian Angels has been chosen by the Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce to receive the
2010 Business of the Year award; and
WHEREAS, Guardian Angels, a nonprofit organization, was founded in 1962 in Elk River, Minnesota under
the sponsorship of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in cooperation with Elk River's business leaders and
medical community to serve the elderly of Elk River and surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, Guardian Angels mission is to share Christ's love by providing innovative health, housing and
support services for seniors and their families through active communities and individualized services; and
WHEREAS, Guardian Angels is a Charter Member and a member in good standing of the Elk River Area
Chamber of Commerce and is active in the community through their employees involvement in numerous
nonprofit and service organizations in the Elk River and surrounding area including the Elk River Ministerial
Association, Rotary, Lions, and Faith in Action; and
WHEREAS, Guardian Angels has received numerous awards including being voted as one of the "Best
Nursing Homes in Minnesota" by US Nemr, recipient of the Health Care Auxiliary Most Increased Volunteer
Hours in 2009 (by having over 10,000 volunteer hours of service recorded); and
receiving the 2010 Elite Top 500 in the Nation award for Elim Home Caxe; and
WHEREAS, Guardian Angels is one of the largest employers in Elk River, employing 460 employees; and
WHEREAS, Guardian Angels currently has an annual operating budget of $24 million which contributes to
the economic growth, stability and improvement of the community; and
WHEREAS, Guardian Angels provides outreach programs and works together with the community to
enhance the lives of our seniors; and
WHEREAS, Guardian Angels provides training opportunities and partnerships with our local colleges and
business schools to help educate health professionals.
NOW THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED as Mayor of the City of Elk River, I do hereby proclaim
Tuesday, November 16, 2010, as Guardian Angels Day in the City of Elk River.
