05-27-1997 LIB MINELK RIVER LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES May 27, 1997 Board Members: Murray McNair, Chair present Mary Keifenheim, Vice Chair present Eleanor Holm, Secretary present Elly Kretsch present Linda Ritchie present Also present: Mick Stoffers, Librarian - Verne Oleksowicz, GRRL Meeting was called to order at 7:05 by Chair McNair. Minutes from March were approved as presented; there was no meeting in April. Suggestion box contained suggestions for: more Boxcar Children books, yearly or bi-yearly poetry readings perhaps sponsored by Friends of the Library., video game magazines, more books, Internet, returning books on time. Verne reported the possibility of GRRL retaining council for small claims court to recoup excessive overdue book fines. May bills and budget updates were presented and discussed. Acceptance was moved by Elly and seconded by Mary. All in favor. Librarian's Report: Old Business: The Board commends Tom Mattson for building a new and larger book drop. He charged $75.00 for materials and donated his labor. New Business: The Friends of the Library ordered computer furniture for the Internet computers and it has arrived. The city has approved matching funds for the computers. Verne reports that all equipment for all GRRL libraries outside Stearns County will be ordered at the same time. The Public Works Department repaired the sprinkler system. B&D Plumbing have repaired the water fountains. Roofers will be completing their work this spring. Mick discussed the preliminary 1998 budget and explained all categories to the Board. It was suggested that the Board walk through the library and grounds to take note of needs in 1998. Verne reported that the St. Cloud Friends of the Library have been donating answering machines for each library in GRRL.This is mainly for the purpose of informing the public of hours and any other pertinent information. In June the procedure for ordering resource videos will change. Patrons cannot order for specific dates but will order/hold on computer as with books. Respectfully submitted, Eleanor Holm
