ACTION REQUESTED
•Appoint Brad Rolfe Police Chief effective immediately at pay grade 16 step D with a step increase in
one year based on satisfactory performance.
•Approve the pay increase retroactive to his appointment as interim Police Chief.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Following interviews of two outstanding applicants by Councilmember Nick Zerwas, Sheriff Joel Brott,
and me, we were faced with the difficult task of choosing between two people who were both clearly
capable of leading the department with excellence and professionalism. After much consideration, we are
recommending that Captain Brad Rolfe be promoted to Police Chief.
Mr. Rolfe has 29 years of experience on the police department, almost all of that time serving as a
member of the management team. Currently Mr. Rolfe serves as patrol captain in charge of the patrol
division and as the acting chief in the absence of the chief. He has been instrumental in leading the
department, selecting staff, and developing new initiatives such as the SWAT team and Honor Guard.
Mr. Rolfe has received numerous letters of recognition and commendation and has received many
department awards.
Following action to promote Captain Rolfe to Police Chief Rolfe, a swearing in will be held. At that time
the Mayor is asked to administer the oath of office to the new Police Chief.
