08-20-1996 LIB MINELK RIVER LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES AUGUST 20, 1996 Board Members: Murray McNair Present Linda Ritchie Present Elly Kretsch Present Mary Keifenheim Present Eleanor Holm Present Also Present: Mick Stoffers, Librarian; Verne Oleksowicz, GRRL Meeting was called to order at 6:35 pm by Chair Murray McNair. There was no meeting in July fog lack of quorum. Murray moved approval of June minutes. Linda seconded. All in favor. We received an informational memo from the city regarding better communication between the city council and the library board with the suggestion of a city council member to act as liason with the library. In response Mick will send a memo to the mayor and city council stating the libary board would also like to see better communication with the city. In this regard it may be appropriate for the city council to consider appointing a member of the council as a liason to the library board. Mick shared information regarding the annual Minnesota Library Association meeting which will be held October 9-11, 1996 in St. Cloud. Linda moved approval of the July and August bill lists. Eleanor seconded. All in favor. Regarding the bill from Pneumatic Controls Mick said the motorized damper has been working fine. She suggested we pay the bill of $144.50 for the most recent work done and $277.00 for the money retained for the motorized damper. Mary moved approval, Eleanor seconded. All in favor. Elly moved and Eleanor seconded tht we pay the bill for $696 to B & D Plumbing. All in favor. B & D added 30 gallons of polypropylene to the boilers. There was a broken window near the children's area. Eleanor moved we approve payment to Fast Glass for $422.50. Mary seconded. All in favor. Mick reported on the budget meeting. Money for the new roof will come out of our cash reserve fund which is estimated to be $124,000 by the end of 1996. It was the consensus of the board to purchase mini blinds for the employee break room at a cost of $147.00. It was also the consensus of the board to purchase 3 Kirsch accordian pleated room darkening shades for the three windows in the community room at a cost of $523.80. The three bottom panels on these windows will be covered with fabric on spring rods. Mary moved to replace all oT the heads of the lights in the parking lot (those not replaced with the new addition) for $290 each with free installation by the city utilities. Eleanor seconded. All in favor. Regarding the bids for the new roof: Cliff reported to Mick that the city opted for the built-up system and advertising for bids will be done Aug 28-Sept 4; Pre-bidding will be Sept 9 @ 10:00 at city hall and bid openings will be Sept 16 at city hall. The contract will state the work is to be done in 5 weeks but is expected to be complete in 3-4 days. York currently has the furnace maintenance contract which is up November 1, 1996. Cliff is checking on other companies and will let us know. Members present were asked to review the by-laws and bring changes to the next meeting. Verne reported there has been an upgrade on the computer making it faster and better. The next meeting will be September 17, 1996. Meeting adjourned.
