June 2, 1997
SUBJECT: Council Meetings
Rem
As previously discussed with the City Council, it is appropriate to cancel the
special meeting that was called for June 9, 1997, following the EDA meeting.
This meeting had been called to hear the presentation from Decision
Resources on the community survey results. However, Councilmember
Thompson is not available for the June 9 meeting and has requested that the
presentation be delayed until he is available. Please note that if this meeting
is canceled, the only meeting scheduled for June 9 will be the EDA meeting
beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Rem ~2.
It is requested that the City Council call its regular meeting on June 16 for
5:00 p.m. instead of 6:00 p.m. In this manner, we can have the Decision
Resources presentation on the community survey from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and
this will allow us to get to our Planning public hearings at a reasonable hour.
We will have this meeting in the City Council Chambers so that it can be
video taped and put on the cable TV. It is anticipated that the presentation
and follow-up discussion will take about 2 hours. At this meeting the Park
and Recreation Commission will be indicating its support to the City Council
for approval to proceed with a parks, trails, and open space public bond
referendum which may include a second question on a swimming pool. The
Council does not need to make a decision on the Park and Recreation request
at this June 16 meeting, but a decision will be needed relatively soon if the
vote is to take place as planned shortly after Labor Day. A certain amount of
preparation time is required in order to put together a plan, cost estimates
and to promote the proposal.

Item 6.3.
I would like to advise the City Council that the Ice Arena Commission is
taking a tour of the Ice Arena facility on Tuesday, June 3, 1997.
Construction Manager, Pat Barnett; Building Official, Cliff Skogstad; and
Arena Manager, Rich Czech will be in attendance for this tour.
Councilmembers are invited to attend. If the majority of the Council will be
in attendance, this will constitute an official City Council meeting. If this is
the case, the Council should continue its June 2nd meeting until this June 3rd
date at the Ice Arena. Please note that Councilmember Farber is on the Ice
Arena Commission.
Item 6.4.
City Engineer, Terry Maurer, has received feedback from MnDOT on possible
MnDOT tour dates. One date that is being suggested in order to have the
best attendance of MnDOT officials is Wednesday, July 2, 1997. The tour
usually begins mid-morning and takes about 2 hours. A late lunch follows
the tour for continued discussion on issues of mutual concern. We generally
have an opportunity to introduce discussion topics prior to the tour over
coffee and donuts while at City Hall. Councilmembers attending the MnDOT
tour should plan on a 10:00 to 2:30 type of time frame.
