ROCLAMATION
Minnesota Special Olympics Day
July 12, 1997
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Special Oly~npics Annual Softball Tournatnent will be held on
Saturday, July 12, 1997, at the Junior High Ball Fields in Elk River; and,
WHEREAS
the Minnesota Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary have
sponsored the tournament for 17 years; and,
WHEREAS,
the Minnesota Special Olympics allow the athletes to experience the excite~nent
of competition, continued personal achieve~nent, and recognition of their
abilities; and,
WHEREAS,
these softball games provide the citizens of Minnesota with an opportunity to
witness the drive, energy, potential, and capabilities of people with mental
retardation; and,
WHEREAS, the lives of everyone involved including the athletes, coaches, volunteers, and
spectators are enriched.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Henry A. Duits~nan, Mayor of the City of
Elk River, hereby proclaim Saturday, July 12, 1997, as
MINNESOTA SPECIAL OLYMPICS DAY
in Elk River.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Elk River citizens are encouraged to attend the
Minnesota Special Oly~npics softball games on July 12, 1997, at the Junior
High Ball Fields.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have set ~ny hand and
caused the seal of the City of Elk River to be affixed
