RE: COUNTY ROAD 30 SPEED STUDY
Dear Council Members:
We have received the attached letter from Dave Schwarting, Sherburne County Highway Engineer,
regarding a speed study on County Road 30 (Mississippi Road). It appears the Sherburne County
Board has requested a speed study for the portion of County Road 30 west of the City of Elk River.
Mr. Schwarting has requested that the City Council of Elk River adopt the attached resolution so
that he could include all of County Road 30 within the City of Elk River which is not currently in a
30 mph zone. I believe, with the recent development along this corridor, there is a good chance
that at least a portion of County Road 30 within the City of Elk River would have the speed limit
reduced by this speed study. Therefore, I would recommend adoption of the attached resolution.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, I will be in attendance at your June 30, 1997, City
Council meeting.

RE: Speed Zone Study along County Road 30
Mayor Hank Duitsman:
On June 10, 1997, the Sherburne County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution to
request the above study. As part of this study my analysis and recommendation is to
include that portion of County Road 30 in the city limits. Therefore, I would like to
request that the City Council pass a resolution to requesting the above on that portion
of County Road 30. I have enclosed a example resolution for your use or reference.
Upon receipt, I will submit both requests to MnDOT.

RESOLUTION REQUEST FOR SPEED ZONING
BE IT RESOLVED, the City Coucil of Elk River, in compliance with
subdivision 5 of Section 169.14 of the Highway Traffic Regulation Act, hereby request
the Commissioner of Highways, upon the basis of an engineering and traffic
investigation, to authorize the erection of appropriate signs designating a reasonable
and safe speed limit upon the following described highway:
COUNTY HIGHWAY 30
(Mississippi Road)
From the West Elk River City Limits
To approximately 600 feet west of Fresno Street
(30 MPH zone begins).
Resolution passed at a meeting of the City Council on
