Subject: Arena Update
During the storm on September 12`" the roof over the Olympic rink sustained hail
damage. The damage is throughout the roof and has caused major leaking in the Olympic
rink. The insurance adjuster as well as a roofing consultant for the insurance company
have been out and have inspected the damage to the roof. The consultant for the
insurance company recommended to the insurance company a total replacement of the
roof. During this time the insurance company is receiving bids from four roofing
companies, as well as quotes from two cleaning companies to clean the interior walls that
have water stains on them from the roof leaks. It is yet to be determined if the walls will
need to be painted, once the quotes come in from the cleaning companies we should
know more. I would expect that even if they could get all the stains removed from the
walls, the paint where the walls were cleaned would be a different shade from the rest of
walls.
The city council adopted a resolution authorizing the emergency replacement or the repair
of the Arena roof. This allows the city to move forward on the replacement or the repair
of the roof without going through the cities bidding process, which would delay the
replacement by weeks. The resolution was also needed so that repairs could be made as
quickly as possible to avoid more damage to the interior of the building and to the ice in
the Olympic rink.
Once the city receives the final amount the insurance is willing to pay for the replacement
of the roof, the city will then have to determine what type of roof to install and a
contractor to install it. A final determination of the damages to the interior of the Arena
will not be decided until the roof is completed.
Bids were open for the office space in the Olympic rink last Thursday. Nelson's Builders
and Development was the lowest bid at; $47,100.00. This pass Monday the council
awarded the bid to Nelson's Builders and Development. We are now in the process of
creating a time line for the project, if all goes well the project should be completed by
mid November.
The concession stand has been open since the third weekend in September. Five part
time people have been hired to work in the concession stand; before the end of October
I'm hoping to have eight people hired.
The city council has approved up to $10,000.00 for equipment for the concession stand.
Table, shelves and a new sink have been purchased as well as a Point of Sales program
which keeps track of sales and inventory. A two door freezer will be purchased as soon
as we can find a good used freezer at a reasonable price.

Outings: State Fair 9-1-05, St Cloud Shopping 9-21-05, Duluth w train 9-22-05
this trip was so successful that we added a second outing on 10-13-05, 3-Day
Meskwaki Casino Tour 9-23,24,25. We have 3 other tours planned for Oct in
addition to the Duluth Trip. Outings have really increased. It almost takes one
person to manage all the money and reservations.
10-12-05 Meeting Kristin T at Woodland Park for second attempt to take pictures
of older adults walking and a volunteer checking on the Wood Duck houses for
AR video.
The "Silvertones" (Senior Center singing group) were invited by the ERAAA to
perform with the Tina and Lena show at the Zabee Theatre on 9-23-05.
We have resumed showing movies October thru May 06
October main event: Oktoberfest on 10-18-05 co-sponsored with Senior Dining
this event includes a special menu, live music and door prizes. About 140 attend
