PRSR 09-13-2006ver MEMORANDUM TO: Parks and Recreation Commission FROM: Michele Bergh, Recreation Manager DATE: September 1, 2006 SUBJECT: Staff Report Hot Topic(s~ of the Month We are looking forward to all being housed under one roof again in the near future. The office rebuild is underway and the additional work in the storage room areas will start on September 14`h. We hope to be back together by the end of September. August Programs Adult fitness, Parent and Tot Open Playtime, Wiggles and Giggles, BLAST, Girl Power, Cheer America, Young Americans Self Defense, Volleyball Camp, Roller Hockey Skills Camp, Sumner Soccer League, T-Ball, Day at the Dog Park, Dog Obedience, Sparts Camps, Mad Science and Other Crazy Activities, CRUNCH, outings, Entertainment in the Park, Art in the Park, Elk River Tuesday Paxk Racing Series, and Skating Academy. Program Highlights The Tuesday Night Park Races were a big success with about 70 children participating in 6 different races. We received a lot of positive feedback and the Cross Country team did a gxeatjob of providing volunteers. We will be hosting 3 mountain bike races at Hillside beginning September 5`h. This is a new program as well and we look forward to having more opportunities available at Hillside in the future. The 1" Annual Pinewood Open filled with 54 participants and was a huge success. We raised over $1,600 fox CAER. We axe currently working on an employee tournament to take place on September 21". Fall Softball has 14 teams signed up for Men's League on Mondays and 12 teams for Co-Rec on Wednesday. This is up 2 teams from last year. Interviewed a potential "Experience Works" person to work as a Receptionist/Program Aide for 20 hours per week. Next day notified that their Grant was cancelled. 8-28 Matyor Stephanie Klinzing and Art Jackett at the center to talk to seniors about the future Elk River area YMCA. 8-30 YMCA Program Committee at the Senior Center Aug / Sept Tours: 8-3 Boat Tour on Minnetonka and Excelsior Farmers Market 8-31 MN State Fair 9-10/18 Foxwoods Resort, Upstate New York and Connecticut Tour was cancelled because of low attendance. 9-12 MN History Center and New Mpls.
