NONCONFORMING
BILLBOARDS
During the recent storm, about a dozen billboards along east Highway 10
received damage. Some of the damaged signs are non-conforming as they are
spaced closer than 1,200 feet from the next billboard. According to city
ordinance, the city is not required to allow non-conforming signs that are
damaged by more than 50% to be replaced. This affects approximately eight
of the signs in question.
Staff does not plan to issue permits for reconstruction of these signs and
anticipates the sign companies fighting the city on this issue. Please advise
staff if we are pursuing a course of action you do not agree with.
