Liquor Store Quotes
Counter and Cabinet Quotes
Attached for your review is a memo from Construction Manager Mike
Parsons regarding awarding the quotes for the liquor store check out cabinet
work. Staff concurs with the recommendation to award the cabinet job to
Zroka Cabinet and Fixtures Company in the amount of $7,106, and the
countertops job to Fritz Countertops, Inc., in the amount of $5,840. A
number of local firms identified in the Chamber directory, including Jerry
McChesney and Berg Custom Cabinets, were invited to bid on the work but
declined. The counter and cabinet work is above the budget estimate, but the
total furniture, fixture, and equipment budget is still in very good shape.
Security System
The security system quote was removed from last week's agenda as input was
requested from Municipal Utilities. The apparent low bidder for the liquor
store security system is Wellington Security Systems in the amount of
$14,161. The Utilities reviewed this information and submitted their
attached cost estimates of $13,867.23. This amount needs to be qualified by
noting that the included labor expenses would be "at least" $4,000, and also
that the General Manager indicated a 5-10 percent mark up of the materials
is typical and this quote from the Utilities does not include any mark up on
the prices of parts. If a 5 percent mark up was added, then the Utilities
quote would be in the $14,360 range. Staff is comfortable with its previous
recommendation to award the contract to Wellington Security Systems in the
amount of $14,161.

SUBJECT: Consider Bids for Liquor Store Security
System
Attached for your consideration is some information from Mike Parsons,
construction manager for the Northbound Liquor Store project, regarding the
bids that were received for the security systems at the new liquor store. The
security systems include the closed circuit television system, the card access
system, and the security alarm system. The low bid for the entire system
was from Wellington Security Systems in the amount of $14,161. The
references on this firm were satisfactory. The city has experience with
General Security Systems Corporation as they did the work at City Hall, but
they were not the low responsible bidder for the Liquor Store project. Staff
concurs with the recommendation as noted in the attached material from
Mike Parsons.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council approve a motion awarding the
security systems contracts to Wellington Security Systems, Minneapohs,
Minnesota, in the amount of $14,161.
