Mayor administer the Oath of Office to Police Sergeant Darren McKernan.
Background/Discussion
Darren McKernan was appointed to the position of Patrol Sergeant on February 21, 2011. He is
an eleven year member of the police department. He has a BA from Concordia University and an
AAS from Alexandria Technical College. Sergeant McKernan is a department peer counselor,
SWAT and bike team member, and Reserve Unit Coordinator. He is a former School Liaison
Detective. He has received numerous department awards and commendations.. Sergeant
McKernan fills the vacancy created by the promotion of Captain Nierenhausen.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.

States, the Constitution of the State of Minnesota, the laws of the State of Minnesota, and
the ordinances of the City of Elk River, and that I will faithfully execute and discharge the
duties of Patrol Sergeant for the City of Elk River, according to law and to the best of my
ability and understanding.
