2011 Cable Plow Purchase
BACKGROUND:
Approved in the 201 l Budget was the purchase of a cable plow. The cable plow after trade-in of
our current Case 960 cable plow was budgeted for $150,000.
DISCUSSION:
This type of equipment is not available through the Minnesota State Bids. However, National
Joint Power Alliance (NJPA) is a government service cooperative that had been created through
MN Stature 123A.21 and they have government contracts for this type of construction
equipment. This agency provides a similar service as the Minnesota State Bids and is enable to
do so by MN Statue 471.59 and 471.345. Attached for Commission review under agenda item
5.2 is a NJPA brochure detailing the enabling legislation. Vermeer has the contract with NJPA
for this type of equipment.
The quote on a Vermeer cable plow after trade-in is $131,921.16.
ACTION REQUESTED:
Staff recommends purchasing the Vermeer cable plow.
