ACTION REQUESTED
The Police Department is requesting Council approval to send Detective Joe Gacke to a training course
at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia..
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The course, entitled "Police Photography," is offered through the FBI Virtual Academy and takes place
from Apri14, 2011 through April 15, 2011. This course focuses on investigative photography and teaches
techniques and their application to crime scenes, accident scenes, surveillance, and other investigative
areas.
The knowledge gained from this course would have a direct impact on the day to day activities of the
police department. Some of the most valuable evidence collected at scenes, are the photographs
documenting the condition of the scene during the investigation. The added skills obtained through this
training will only help to make the detective unit more capable when documenting and presenting the
scene at the time of the initial investigation.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The financial impact to the City will be minimal. The FBI pays the students travel expenses, lodging, and
meals while attending the training. The only cost to the City would be any incidental travel expenses and
the employee's normal wage.
