Authorization to purchase 2011 GMC Sierra 2500 pickup & accessories from Nelson Auto Center.
Background/Discussion
The Parks Department is seeking authorization to replace the 1991 Chevy 3/a ton pickup truck. The
new pickup will be used as a general park maintenance service truck. The 1991 Chevy has over 108,000
miles and has been having carburetor and transmission issues. Nelson Auto Center has the current State
contract for the pickup in the amount of $25,675.20 including sales tax. With accessories (side boxes,
LED strobe, back rack etc.) the total cost is $28,555.48. We also requested a quote from Polar Chevrolet
for the pickup and the amount quoted was $27,315.10 including sales tax; with the accessories, the total
cost was $30,195.38. Using the State contract will save approximately $1,639.90. The 1991 Chevy 3/4 ton
pickup will go to auction.
Financial Impact
This item is budgeted in the equipment replacement fund for $32,000. The total cost of the pickup at
$28,555.48 is $3,444.52 below budget. This difference more than offsets the lawn mowers purchased
earlier this year that were $1,542.73 over budget.
