Margaret Mead The goal of One Week:One Well is to raise enough money in one week to fund the drilling of a well in an African viallage. THis can be done throughthe simple sacrifice of forgoing one of our favori#e beverages and dons#ing the money #o the One Week: One Well project. With the support and involvement of our entire community, we can provide clean water that will change lives forerver. This plan was developed by a group of Elk River residen#s who were motivated after learning that one out of seven people in our world live with out access to clean water. For #hese people, the quest for wa#er consumes many of their waking days hours and often brings them water that is so filthy that we would not even use it to wash our cars.. Yet this contaminated water is what they drink everyday. By providing a well #o a village, water born diseases can be eliminated, crops can be watered, kids can go to school and lives can be #ransformed. Sending a village food or other forms of humanitarian aid provide short-term relief. A well provides a future. By sacrificing one coffee, one soda or one bo#tled water and drinking the clean tap water that we take for granted, we could dontate the money we saved and make a profound difference in the lives of others. Last year, One Week: One Well raised enough money to drill a new well for a vil{age in Africa and send funds to another village to repair a broken well. In one week, the small sacrifices of Eik River ci#izens combined to dramaticaNy change the #uture of two villages! This year we hope to do even better! And, we know #ha# through our city's example, and by the invitation of our Mayor, other communities will do the same. The dream is that this grass-roots effort, continues #o grow #o impac# the future of many more villages in Africa -and many more cities in our country, becasue as we unite in causes that bring hope to others, we become stronger as a community.
