Authorization to accept the low quote received from Brenteson Companies, Inc. in the amount of
$21,184.00 to complete the erosion repair at the outlet in the Stormwater pond on Parce175-787-0007,
south of Menards.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The Stormwater pond generally located just south of the Menards yard area has developed erosion at the
outlet into the pond. The following pictures identify the current condition of the outlet.
The problem has developed as a result of the stormwater being conveyed down the sand slope of the
pond bank and eroding the soil beneath the riprap. The attached figure identifies the proposed
improvements to correct the condition. The proposed work will include the installation of two new
storm structures and a short section of 30-inch pipe to convey the water to the bottom of the pond in a
piped conduit. The proposed work will include salvaging and reinstalling all reusable components
including the flared end section of pipe and the in place riprap. Also included is the removal of the
eroded sediment from the pond bottom and restoration of the pond slope at the outlet location. The
access route to complete the work will be along the existing drainage and utility easement located on
property owned by Menards. We met with the Menards store manager on Apri14, 2011 and explained
the work we were proposing. We further explained that upon completion of the work all disturbed turf
areas will be restored to pre-existing conditions. The Menards manager did not have any concerns with
our proposed work.

If this work is approved by the City Council, we will work with the contractor to have the work
completed by May 15, 2011.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
We asked three contractors for a price to complete the work. Two of those contractors provided
quotations as follows:
Brenteson Companies, Inc. $21,184.00
Herbst Excavating $27,675.00
Staff recommends approval of the low quote submitted by Brenteson Companies, Inc. in the amount of
$21,184.00. We have worked with Brenteson Companies in the past and are confident they have the
equipment and experience to complete this project. This project will be funded through the approved
2011 Surface Water Management fund in which there is $26,000 reserved for these types of repairs.
