SUBJECT: Inspection Program for Development
Projects
The review of development projects involves a considerable amount of time on
the front end with planning and preparing reports for the Planning
Commission and City Council and ultimately, plan approval. However,
equally important in the process is the project follow-up to make sure projects
are completed according to the plans approved by the Planning Commission
and City Council. This has been a goal of the Planning Department for the
last several years. With the recent hiring of the planning intern, the
Planning Department will begin a follow up program going back checking
each development site to make sure the requirements and conditions of
approval have been satisfied.
I'm sure there will be projects that have completed all of their improvements
and met all conditions of approval, while others may fall just short or have
not completed any of the improvements. This program will be an ongoing
effort to work with the businesses and property owners to be in compliance
with their approved plans and permits. It is the department's full intention
to make sure this program is a compromising effort with the property
owner/business to meet the conditions of approval. After inspection of the
sites, a letter will be sent out to the business, developer or property owner
identifying the items which need to be completed in order to satisfy the
approved plans.
I wanted to update the Council on this program in case you receive any calls
regarding this follow-up program. Once again, this will be ongoing effort to
work with the businesses over a period of time to make sure that conditions
of approval are ultimately met and sites are completed according to approved
plans. If any of the Councilmembers have concerns or questions regarding
this program, please feel free to call me or I will be at the meeting Monday
night to answer any questions.
