105 total in attendance. The Senior and Activity Centers had a total of 1 t 9
volunteers sharing 3,924 hours of time and talent in 2010.

The busy summer season is fast approaching. The Recreation staff is busy putting the fmal
touches on program planning and recruiting seasonal staff. A wide variety of program
opportunities will be offered to the Elk River community throughout the summer months.
Youth will have the opportunity to enroll in sports camps such as volleyball and lacrosse as
well as Summer Playground Adventure classes such as Dynamic Detectives and Extreme
Boredom Busters. Adults can enjoy activities such as softball leagues and Boot Camp in the
Park fitness classes. Families can enjoy special events such as weekly concerts at Rivers
Edge Commons Park and Nite to Unite. These are just a few examples of the many
programs available to the community this sutntner.

Department Updates
The City of Otsego has approached the City of Elk River to discuss their recreational
program offerings. They wish to explore the concept of working with the City of Elk River
in delivering recreational programs to Otsego residents. Staff will be meeting with the
Otsego Parks and Recreation Commission to determine what recreational programming they
feel would positively serve their community. This information will then allow our
Department to determine if a plan can be developed that will benefit both organizations.
The hiring of the Parks and Recreation Director position is currently in process. 115
applications were received for the position opening. The Commission will be continually
updated throughout the hiring process.
At the April Parks and Recreation Commission meeting a discussion was held regarding
updates to the Indoor Facility Rental policy utilized for Lions Park Center and the Trott
Brook Baxn. As part of the policy, the Lions Club can utilize Lions Park Centex fox a
reduced rate for Lions Club functions. The question has been raised regarding what type of
events constitutes a Lions Club function. Before the rental policy revisions are completed
and brought to the Commission, staff will be meeting with the Lions Club to discuss the
policy as it relates to the Lions Club.
