SUBJECT: Activity Center 501 c3 Status Update
ITEM 7.2.
One of the goals of the Activity and Senior Centers during budget work sessions the past
couple years has been to obtain a 501c3 status for grant writing and charitable giving. An
additional purpose of obtaining the 501c3 status would be to fundraise fox scholarships for
participants of the Activity and Senior Centers. The name of the corporation will be Elk
River Activity Center Council, Inc. This council will operate much like the Friends of the
Library.
Senior Center staff has been working on this project with guidance from Finance Director
Tim Simon and Ron Black, a local attorney.
The Articles of Incorporation have been written and are now ready to file with the State of
MN.
The money that is needed for this project will come from donations to the Activity and
Senior Centers. There is enough money in this fund to file and to set up a small budget for
beginning operation costs. There will be no cost to the city to start this project.
