Overview
The proposed development shows a paved nail following the existing path through the park
out to 196"' Court. A small section of the path consists of a wood chip trail with a hand rail
running along one side. The railing would provide a means to help people climb the hill as
well as something to hold onto while walking down the hill. It will also direct users to more
gradual slopes versus traversing the steepest portion of the hill.
Woodchips axe the least expensive solution as well as the least disruptive to the vegetation
on site. This section of trail would have one ox two switchbacks in it to help reduce the
steepness of the trail. After all of the precipitation received in May, there was no evidence of
erosion on the hill and if large volumes of water are not allowed to build up and then run
down the hill the woodchips should not wash away.
A small bench by the wetland complex near the nazxowing of the pazk would provide a nice
overlook into the natural setting. A covered resting/sitting area is being proposed just off of
the Great Northern Trial on the high point of the existing clearing. This would be highly
visible from the trail.
The ravine at the "T" intersection off of 196`" court will be discussed at the meeting. Staffs
recommendation is to complete some minor grade changes around the ravine and then
infilling it to provide adequate slopes fox access by maintenance vehicles into the park. Staff
will provide some costs associated with filling in the ravine and the contracting of hauling
the brush out and/ox possibly burying it on site.
