SUBJECT: Rivers Edge Commons Park Splash Pad Operation Dates
Background
The question has been raised by staff regarding dates in which the splash pad at Rivers Edge
Commons Park should be open to the public. Past practice has been to open the splash pad
in May when the weather is generally warming up and remain open as late as weather allows
in the fall. There are several issues related to this approach and axe listed as follows:
• Opetating the splash pad requires daily chemical tests to assure it is safe fox public
use per State law. Checking the splash pad on the weekends requires additional staff
time.
The general industry standard fox splash pad operations is Memorial Day weekend
through Labor Day weekend. The reasoning fox these dates is that outside of this
timeframe, the weather in this region has proven to be extremely inconsistent thus
limiting public use of these types of water play features.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommend that the splash pad in Rivers Edge Commons Park be open from
Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.
