Hot Topic(s) of the Month
A new program held in May was the Ladies Night at Hillside Park Mountain Bike Trail. As
the name indicates, this was a women's only event that gave participants a chance to ride the
trails regardless of their experience or ability. Ramsey Bicycle sponsored the event and
provided demo bikes. Two events were held with 50 participants in the first event and 45 in
the second.

Department Updates
The City of Otsego has approached the Ciry of Elk River to discuss their recreational
program offerings. They wish to explore the concept of working with the City of Elk River
in delivering recreational programs to Otsego residents. Staff met with the Otsego Parks
and Recreation Commission to discuss what recreational programming they feel would
positively serve their community. This information will now allow our Department to
determine if a plan can be developed that will benefit both organizations.
The Parks and Recreation Director position is currently in the process of being reposted.
The posting will remain open until filled. The Commission will be continually updated on
the hiring process.

Department Updates -Parks
Due to hail damage, several park facilities are in need of repairs. Types of areas that were
damaged include roofs, siding, and signs. The City recently completed the insurance
process to secure funds fox the repairs. The repairs are scheduled to be completed over the
summer months.
The Parks and Recreation Department has been working in collaboration with the
Department of Natural Resources and the Sherburne County Water Patrol to replace the
fishing dock in Orono Lake. The construction is now complete and the dock is open to the
Commujnity.
The Parks Maintenance crew has been working on re-lamping the lights on the Orono
Athletic'Complex. The xe-lamping project is now complete.
