Safe and Sober Grant
The Police Department has again been awarded a Safe and Sober Grant. The new grant will
be for the period October 1, 2003 through September 30, 2004. I am asking that the Council
Pass the attached resolution agreeing to enter into the agreement with the Department of
Public Safety to participate in the project entitled Safe & Sober Communities. The grant
amount for our project is $28,000.
I want to commend Sgt. Jeffrey Mordat for his supervision of this grant process. Jeff has
been commended this year by the State of Minnesota for his excellent grant writing and
submission of required reports to the Department of Public Safety. He is used as an example
for other departments as an excellent project manager and facilitator of the grant process.
The caliber of his work allows us to continue to receive the funding which results in safer
travel for those who reside in our community.
It should also be noted that our department ranked 8th out of the 288 agencies that took part
in the recent seat belt safety campaign for citations issued. Many of the agencies who
surpassed out performance were much larger in size. I commend each of our officers who
took part in that campaign for their dedication and willingness to work the extra shifts.
RESOLUTION AUTHOR/ZING EXECUTION OF AGREEMENT
Be it resolved that the Elk River Police Department enter into a grant
agreement with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety for
the project entitled SAFE & SOBER COMMUNITIES during the period from October 1,
2003 through September 30, 2004.
Chief Jeffrey Beahen is hereby authorized to execute such agreements and
amendments as are necessary to implement the project on behalf of the Elk River Police
Department and to be the fiscal agent and administer the grant.
