1. Call Meeting To Order
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the meeting of the Elk River Parks and
Recreation Commission was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chair Anderson.
2. Consider May 11.2011 Parks & Recreation Commission Agenda
Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit added Item 9.1.Rivex's Edge Commons Paxk
Splash Pad Operation Dates.

5. Volunteer of the Month
Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit presented Joan Frick as the Volunteer of the
Month.
6. Recreation Manager's Report -Steve Benoit
Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit shared the Elk River Senior Center and Elk River
Ice Arena staff reports.

Mr. Benoit reported that staff has been busy putting the final touches on summer
programming. The summer season offers the largest amount of programming such
as sports camps, Summer Playground Adventure, adult and youth sport leagues and
weekly concerts at River's Edge Commons Park.
Mr. Benoit shared that the City of Otsego has approached the City of Elk River to
discuss and explore the concept of working with the City in delivering recreational
programs to Otsego residents. Staff will be meeting with the Otsego Parks and
Recreation Commission to determine what recreational programming they feel
would positively serve their community.
Mx. Benoit stated that the hiring of the Parks and Recreation Director position is in
process.
Mr. Benoit shared that before the rental policy revisions can be completed from the
April Commission meeting staff will be meeting with the Lions Club to discuss what
constitutes a Lions Club function as this question has been raised several times and
as part of the policy the Lions Club can utilize Lions Park Center at a reduced rate.
Mayor Dietz stated that due to the last Parks and Recreation Director candidate
fuming down the offer the City Council has decided to xepost the position.
Mayor Dietz expressed excitement in the idea of working with the City of Otsego.
He noted that the City Council does not want to lessen current city services to Elk
River residents and believes it will be a great collaborative effort.
Information/Update Items
7.1. Community Events
Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit showcased the Pinewood Golf Course clubhouse
upgrades that were completed by both staff and volunteers.
7.2. Park/Program Highliehts
Planner/Park Planner, Chris Leesebexg shared that the Pinewood Open will be on
June 23rd and that this year's 14`h Annual Ice Show, "I'hcatre on Ice" will be on May
20`" and 21".
8. City Council/Planning Commission Review/Updates -None
Other Business
9.1. River's Edge Commons Park Splash Pad Operation Dates
Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit discussed the operation dates of the River's Edge
Commons Park Splash Pad. Staff recommends the splash pad to be open from
Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.

Commissionex)aker asked to clarify which day of the weekend it would open and
close.
Mr. Benoit stated that it would be Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and Monday
of Labor Day weekend.

RECOMMENDATION TO SET THE OPERATION DATES FOR THE
RIVER'S EDGE COMMONS PARK SPLASH PAD TO SATURDAY OF
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND TO MONDAY OF LABOR DAY
WEEKEND. MOTION CARRIED 7-0.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:53pm and recessed to a
workshop to discuss park signs through the SHIP grant.
