Board Members Absent: Kathleen Tracy, Aaron Ziegler
Others Present: Mick Stoffers, Branch Manager; Brandi Canter, GRRL Regional Supervisor; Nick
Zerwas, City Council Board Liaison
Call Meeting to Order
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the meeting of the Elk River Public Library Board was called to
order at 6:35 p.m, by Board Chair Jayne Dietz.
It was determined a quorum was present
Self Introductions of all in attendance including visitors, Dave Anderson and Melissa
Gilbertson from Parks and Recreation
2. Visitors Presentation by Dave Anderson and Melissa Gilbertson:
• Two questions stated: "Do you have a master plan for the library grounds? Mick
stated, "No" What was the natural plan? Nick shared, perhaps geared toward
value engineering
• Ideas and suggestions were verbally shared about the library grounds landscaping
needs, approximate cost, continual maintenance and sustainability over the years.
• Dave and Melissa offered support and consultation to create a master plan for the
grounds surrounding the library.
• Next Steps:
o Melissa will drafr a master plan for the library board members to review.
The plan will reflect challenges and barriers to various plantings, plait,
irrigation zones, potential funding sources and the potential of
volunteers maintaining the landscaping. There is no charge for
Melissa's work. She will work directly with Mick. Mick will put the
draft on a future library board agenda for discussion
3. Consider March 22, 2011 Library Board Agenda.

AGENDA AS PRESENTED. MOTION PASSED 3-0.
4. Consider Minutes of March 22, 2011 Library Board Meeting.
Willie Jackson MOVED AND Nicole Novotny SECONDED TO APPROVE THE
MINUTES AS PRESENTED. MOTION PASSED 3-0.
5. Consider Mazch 22, 201 ]Treasurer's Report.

6. Librarian's Report -Mick Stoffers.

Librarian's REPORT AS PRESENTED. MOTION PASSED 3-0.
Board Member Update
New board member -Nicole Novotny introduced herself.
Kathleen Tracy is on vacation.
Aaron Ziegler is out of town on business.
Landscaping
Sprinklers ($5,000.00) and Wood Chips ($1,000) are approved budget items.
There is no need to replace wood chips this year. A total of $6,000.00 is now
available and will be utilized in the following manner:
• Delete Prairie grass in front
• North side of building irrigation system as per 2011 budget
• Maintain rain garden north
• North Rain Garden will be improved, reference Melissa's draft
plan
• Retain Prairie Grass by the Butterfly Garden.
• Back Garden on table until board review of Melissa's Draft
Master Plan
• Mick will work with Parks & Recreation and Melissa on the
Master Plan.
Noise complaints:
Board Chair Jayne Dietz and Willie Jackson provided samples from other libraries
addressing rules/expectations. Mick Stoffers and Brandi Canter will create a draft.
An emergency June meeting will occur to discuss and finalize draft.
Maintenance
Mick Stoffers said to let her know if the Board members see any maintenance that is
required, so she can address it.
Furniture and Fixtures
Mick Stoffers was able to save a lot of money by purchasing slat wall shelving for
the library at the Borders Closeout Sale.
Budget 2012
Replace pavers in front of the library. Mick Stoffers is researching and exploring
vendors who could do the work.
8. Adjournment.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m. Next regularly scheduled
meeting will be held on July 26, 201 1.
