Consider Quotes for Demolition of the
Ryding House
Per City Council direction, the city has recently closed on the purchase of the
Ryding property north of the library. The overall plan is to purchase this
house and lot with the intention of removing the structure and adding
parking to the library facility. To this end, it is in the city's best interest to
have the house demolished and removed prior to winter, 1997-98.
Attached for your review is a proposal from Veit & Company to demolish and
remove the structures (house and garage). The city will be providing the
backfill material. The original estimate of Veit & Company, Inc., was
slightly more than $7,000. Veit has completed the demolition work for the
city at the old City Hall (creamery building) and the King and Main
structures. Another quote from the Five Diamond Company was requested,
but this firm declined due to its current work scheduled. Building Official
Cliff Skogstad is attempting to obtain another quote for this work from R.P.
Excavating Company out of Maple Grove. If no other quotes are received, the
city is still comfortable awarding this contract to Veit & Company as it has
consistently been the low quote which the city has received on other projects.
If the other quote is received prior to the Monday evening Council meeting,
this quote will be distributed for your consideration. It is anticipated that
the house will be removed and the site backfilled in early November.
Recommendaiton
Pending any other quotes being received, it is recommended that the City
Council award the demolition of the structures at 431 Proctor to Veit &
Company, Inc., according to its October 6, 1997, quotation.

Dear Mr. Skogstad:
Veit & Company, Inc. will demolish and remove the above noted house and garage for a lump sum price
of $5,750.00. Demolition to be complete including all foundations. We will secure a demolition permit
and notify the proper authorities for the disconnection of utilities. We will cap one water and sewer as
required by the city. All salvageable material becomes the property of Veit. No Backfill. All basement
voids will be sloped off to leave the site in safe condition. We will perform an asbestos survey.
Items not included:
Asbestos, PCB's, CFC's, Lead, Bulbs & Ballasts or any other Hazardous
Material Removal - Backfill - Top Soil or Seeding - Utility Rerouting -
Tanks - Well Abandomnent - Tires - Winter Conditions - Bonds
