SUBJECT: Parks and Recreation Director Interviews
We interviewed six candidates on August 16 for the Parks and Recreation Director position
and have selected two candidates for the Council to interview at the Tuesday, September 6
City Council meeting. We had a very good candidate field and all of the interview panel felt
that either of the finalist's skills and experience will provide positive leadership to the
department in the future. Both Candidates are excited to be chosen for a re-interview.
We are currently working out the details for staff interviews and tours on the afternoon of
September 6, just prior to the Council interview following the HRA meeting. We will
provide a report to Council when all the details are finalized. Should the interviews go a little
long, we will have a message on the cable channel advising the audience that the Council
meeting may be delayed due to the interview process and to stay tuned.

SUBJECT: Highlands West Park Parking Issue

Background
Concern has been raised regarding parking at Highlands West Park which is located at 19550
Auburn Street. A trail runs through the park, crossing over Auburn Street to a connection
on the other side of the street to Highlands East Park. Because there is no parking lot,
patrons must park along Auburn Street to access park amenities. The issue involves park
users parking close to the trail where it connects with Auburn Street, creating a visibility
issue and potential safety hazard for trail users.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends that a no parking zone be created on each side of Auburn Street at the
trail crossing. The no parking zone would entail:
1. "No Parking" yellow stripes to be painted along the Auburn Street curbs (both sides)
which would encompass the trail crossing points.
2. White "Cross i~alk Blocks" will need to be painted on road surface of Auburn Street
at the trail crossing.
3. "Pedestrian CrossingAheacP' and "Pedestrian Crossing" signs need to be installed in both
directions on Auburn Street.
4. "No Parking" signs on each end of yellow striped areas.
Items 2 & 3 should be completed even if the City does not designate the above areas as "No
Parking".
