Staff and the Parks and Recreation Commission recommend the City Council submit a letter of support
to the City of Ramsey.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
At the August 10, 2011 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, Mark Riverblood from the City of
Ramsey presented information regarding the Mississippi River Trail project.
The Mississippi River Trail offers approximately 3,000 miles of on/off-road pedestrian and bicycle
pathways for the recreational enjoyment, health, conservation, and tourism development of river
communities, river states, and the nation. The trail runs from the Mississippi headwaters in Itasca State
Park, through 10 states, to the Gulf of Mexico.
Mr. Riverblood is seeking a letter of support from the City of Elk River to accompany an application for
approximately 1.3 million dollars in federal funding to create a 10 foot wide trail from the Regional Park
in the center of Ramsey along Hwy 10 & 169, paralleling the river, to Elk River and Ramsey's shared
border.
Upon review of the request, the Parks and Recreation Commission voted unanunously to recommend
that the City Council provide a letter of support for the project.

The City of Elk River herby expresses its support for the City of Ramsey's application to secure
funding for the Mississippi River Trail project.
The Mississippi River Trail offers approximately 3,000 miles of on/off-road pedestrian and
bicycle pathways for the recreational enjoyment, health, conservation, and tourism development
of river communities, river states, and the nation. The trail runs from the Mississippi headwaters
in Itasca State Park, through 10 states, to the Gulf of 1~Zexico.
It is our understanding that the City of Ramsey is applying for approximately 1.3 million dollars
in federal funding to create a 10 foot wide trail from the Regional Park in the center of Ramsey
along Hwy 10 & -169, paralleling the river, to Elk River and Ramsey's shared border.
The City of Elk River recognizes the recreational value this project will have to our local
community.
