ACTION REQUESTED
Approve the hiring of Chris Teff as street division Laborer at step A of pay grade 2.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
At the July 18, 2011 City Council meeting, staff was authorized to begin the hiring process to fill a
Laborer position for the street division.
The City received 57 applications and interviewed the top five candidates. A background check and
reference checks have been completed and staff recommends hiring Chris Teff for this position. Mr.
Teff has been working for an excavating company for the past ten years and is excited to begin his career
with the City.
Mr. Teff would start at step A of pay grade 2. After 6 months of employment, he would be eligible for
any cost of living increase given to non-union employees and a step increase dependent upon satisfactory
performance. Mr. Teff would be eligible for his next step increase on July 1, 2013.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The savings from the street superintendent's phased retirement will fund this position. Long term, this
will be a budget addition unless the structure of the division changes.
