SUBJECT: Strategic Industrial Marketing Plan -Consider EDA Marketing
Committee Member Appointments
Background
The seven marketing strategies highlighted in staff's Sttategic Industrial Marketing reports
have been utilized since 2002 and axe based on the 2002-2004 Strategic Industrial Marketing
Action Plan. In January, an update of the plan was identified by the EDA as one of its
priority goals and projects fox 2006.
Plan Background
The first Strategic Industrial Marketing Plan was the 2000-2002 Plan, developed by Duckox
& Associates, the EDA Marketing Committee and Economic Development staff. To serve
as an update to the Plan, the 2000-2002 Assessment and 2002-2004 Action Plan was also
developed by Duckox & Associates the EDA Marketing Committee and Economic
Development staff.
Issue
On May 15th, the EDA Marketing Committee will be reviewing proposals from consultants
who wish to facilitate the update of the plan. The Marketing Committee's recommendation
will be presented to the EDA at its June 12`h meeting.
At its January Annual Business meeting, the EDA re-appointed the following members to
the 2006 EDA Marketing Committee:
Jim Barthel, Elk River Machine
Chris Cadson, Spoxtech
Gary Santwixe, Rivers Crossing
Jim Simpson, The Bank of Elk River
Daryl Thompson, MinuteMan Press
Dan Tveite, EDA representative
Mark Uxista, Coldwell Banker Vision

The Marketing Committee is utilized on an as needed basis to provide feedback and
recommendations for the EDA's industrial marketing efforts.
Recommendation
As members were contacted regarding the upcoming Marketing Committee meeting and in
preparation for the Strategic Industrial Marketing Plan Update, it is recommended that the
EDA consider the following appointments to the 2006 Marketing Committee:
• Appoint Jerry Gumphrey as the City Council representative
• Appoint David Ehlers of Metal Craft Machine & Engineering
In addition, after serving on the Marketing Committee fox six years, Daryl Thompson and
Jim Simpson wish to resign from the Committee. We wish to thank Daryl and Jim fox their
hard work and commitment over the years.
