Street Superintendent Phil Hals was out of the office last week due to
illness. Therefore, the information for agenda items 4.3 and 4.4 was not

Maintenance I Employee
The Street Department received 15 applications and interviewed five
applicants for the Maintenance I position. Staff is recommending that
council authorize the hiring of Philip Barsody as a Maintenance I employee
to 6]1 the vacancy created by .Amy Borst. It is recommended that Phil
Barsody begin employment with the city on Tuesday, December 2, at $9.16
per hour, Step 7, Level A.

SUBJECT: Van Purchase
The council recently authorized staff to get quotes for a van for city
use. A committee of three people looked at six vans from local
distributors. The vehicles and prices are listed below. They are
listed in the order of the committee's suggested preference.
1. 1995 Dodge Grand Caravan - LE, Jerrys of Elk River - mileage -
52,000 - $13,400
2. 1995 Ford Windstar - Elk River Ford - mileage - 35,000 - $13,960
3. 1995 Plymouth Grand Voyager - Jerrys of Elk River - mileage -
35,000 - $14,400
4. 1995 Ford Windstar - Elk River Ford - mileage - 41,000 - $12,804
The money for this purchase is programmed into the 1997 equipment
reserve budget.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED:
Motion to authorize the purchase of a mini-van for city
administration use.
