ACTION REQUESTED
A. Appoint Mike Cunningham as the School District representative to the Ice Arena Commission to
fulfill Mr. Barth's unexpired term until February 28, 2013.
B. Appoint Tim Rybak to the Energy City Commission to serve as the School District representative
for athree-year term to expire February 28, 2014.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Ice Arena Commission
John Barth served as the School District representative to the Ice Arena Commission until his retirement
from the District in 2011. The District's new Athletic Director Mike Cunningham has applied to fill Mr.
Barth's position on the Ice Arena Commission.
Energy City Commission
Ordinance designates that one representative to the Energy City Commission will be designated by
Independent School District #728. The School District representative position on the Energy City
Commission is currently vacant. Tim Ryback, Operations Manager for the Elk River School District, has
expressed an interest in serving as the District's representative on the Commission and has been regularly
attending meetings.
Interviewing
In the past, the Council has chosen to appoint representatives designated by ordinance (ie: school district)
without interviewing.
Staff has received one application for the Heritage Preservation Commission vacancy. Past practice has
been to interview all new applicants, with the exception of those designated by ordinance as discussed
above. The interview will be scheduled for the November worksession unless staff is directed otherwise.
