Bank of Elk River Sponsorship
Item: 7. I .A.
Request
The Parks and Recreation Department would like support in requesting $14,000 from The
Bank of Elk River as a contribution for community events.
Background
As in prior years, The Bank of Elk River would be the exclusive sponsor of the Riverfront
Concert Series, Kidstock, Chalk It Up, and the Elk River Farmels Market. In addition, the
Bank of Elk River would continue to be a participating sponsor of all other Parks and
Recreation managed communityevents, such as Fright Night and the Hillside Single Track
Attack Motmtain Bike State Race.
The partnership The Bank of Elk River and the City of Elk River's Parks and Recreation
Department has had over the past few years has brought the Elk River community together
to share family fun activities that enhance the quality of life in Elk River. Ckle such activity;
the Riverfront Concert Series, has not onlybrought benefit to the community but has
become an Elk River tradition.
In seeking the 2012 sponsorship, The Bank of Elk River has discussed the following
additional benefits to the past sponsorship arrangement. While adding minimal cost to the
City, these additional benefits would add value to the sponsorship and would enhance the
collaborative efforts to benefit the community:
1. A dedication plaque recognizing The Bank of Elk River for the Riverfront Concert
Series at the downtown park The location of the plaque is yet to be determined.
The additional cost to purchase the plaque is estimated at $25 to $100.
2. Currently, the Farmer's Market is held at the Westbound Liquor store parking lot.
The Bank's request is to move the Elk River Farmer's Market downtown to the
Bank's parking lot north of HW 10 and Main Street. Staff would have to work with
Planning Department staff to see if this location is feasible, if not, than to assist in
N:\Departmenu\Pada and Recreazion\Recreaion\2011 PRC Pazkets\ lP 12-11 PRC Pazke[\Ium 7.1.A-Bank Sponsorsltip.d«
seeking the best location for the market downtown (if such location is possible).
There would be no additional cost to move the Farmer's Market.
3. A crucial marketing component for the Bank is reaching young families. The Bank
of Elk River logo would be added to youth league program t-shins. Underneath the
initial t-shirt design, it would state in small print Proud Sponsor that would be above
The Bank of Elk River logo. There would be no additional cost to add the bank
logo as long as the logo and print are on the same side.
4. The Bank of Elk River would like the Recreation Department to offer a new
program of Geocaching. This program would enhance the "Powered by Nature" brand
that would bring benefit to the community by using technology and combining it
with the outdoors. The program would be designed to bring people to The Bank of
Elk River and educate the people about Elk River's entire 44 park system Attached
is a brochure about Geocaching and a brief description of the programs that would
be offered.
Total Cost
• Dedication plaque - $25 - 100
• Relocation of Farmer's Market No Cost
• Bank logo on t-shuts No Cost
• Geocaching *$850
*The geocaching equipment will also be utilized for classes
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends the Parks and Recreation Commission support the additional Bank of Elk
River sponsorship benefits.
