Mayor and City Council
Jeffrey A. Beahen, Chief of Police, Bruce West, Fire Chief

Public Safety Building Open House
The police and fire departments will be hosting open houses at the downtown fire station
and the new fire and police building on September 20, 2003 from 1:00 pm until 4:30 pm.
The fire department will continue their celebration by hosting a street dance on Jackson
Avenue from 7:30pm until 11:30 pm featuring the Johnny Holm Band.
The downtown fire station will be having many public demonstrations including the
smoke house, extrication procedures, safe escape house, sprinkler trailer, fire extinguisher
demonstrations and a car bum. Children and families alike enjoy these public displays
and we encourage the council to stop by this station and see these displays time allowing.
At 1:00 pm we are asking that the Mayor and Council attend a ribbon cutting ceremony at
the front of the new public safety building. We would appreciate the Mayor or her
designated spokesperson saying a few words about the opening of this new facility. At
1:30 pm we will have a flag raising ceremony followed by the dedication of the Andy
Zachman memorials located on the SE comer of the police department.
Our primary goal at the new police and fire facility is to allow the public in for tours so
they may visit the new locations and view the completed facilities. We will have treats
and keepsakes for those that visit. We will also have a few displays on hand but don't
want to detract from the building itself as we are both very proud of this new facility.
Please contact Chief West of Chief Beahen if you have any questions concerning the
day's events.
