SUBJECT: Meeting Reminder & Staff Updates -October 19, 201 I
This is to remind you of our upcoming meeting on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 8:30 a.m. in the Uppertown
Conference Room at the Elk River City Hall. The agenda and August minutes axe attached.
STAFF UPDATES
ENERGY EXPO
The Energy Expo is scheduled for Mazch 10, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Elk River High School. The
Keynote Speaker will be Michael Futtxnan, MN native Wildlife Photographer. There will be a medallion hunt to
increase the awareness and help in funding the Expo. Staff has been asked about combining the event with the Elk
River Axea Chamber Business Expo. Staff is concerned about this as they feel that the Energy component would
be lost and that there has already been considerable work done on planning this event including advertising. Staff is
open to hear comments from the Commission on this.
PROJECT CONSERVE PHASE II & III
The final meetings for Phase II were held on October 1, 3, and 4, 2011. The main topic was transportation fuel
with an overview of the electric, natural gas, water and garbage/recycling presentations. The conservation results
for each topic azea were covered as well as the highest individual savings. The Save Our Precious Resources
(SOPR) Team results were also presented. The highest individual annual savings was $620 with 3 participants
exceeding the $500 savings goal. Staff will go into more details about the results during the meeting.
The first Phase III meetings have been scheduled for October 20, 22, and 24. There aze 240 residents signed up fox
the pxograzn and 3 businesses signed up. The first meetings will be an introduction and discussion on ways to
conserve electricity.
CITY COUNCIL MEETING & BRANDING MEETING, SEPTEMBER G, 2011

discussion about ways Energy City can incorporate the new brand "Powered by Nature" into its work.
